Ensuring the viability and sustainability of Australian irrigated agriculture and the security and reliability of water entitlements
The National Irrigators’ Council (NIC) is seeking an experienced Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
to lead the organisation and support industry through national water reforms.
NIC is the national peak body representing the interests of irrigators across Australia. This
position provides an opportunity to work for an established organisation in a dynamic and
high-profile industry with members who are passionate about their businesses and
communities. Ideally the position would be based in Canberra, however flexible working
arrangements may be negotiated.
Reporting to the NIC Board, the CEO provides water policy advice and direction to the
irrigation industry and represents the NIC at a national level. The CEO will also lead NIC’s
public relations activities. This is very much a hands-on role, and the organisation will be
looking for someone with demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in water policy.
To succeed in this position, you will need to demonstrate a proven ability to:
• Lead and manage policy development with a laser focus on water policy;
• Provide strategic representation for an influential industry association;
• Negotiate positive outcomes in the challenging world of water resource management.
• Maintain and develop important strategic relationships with governments, industry and
external stakeholders;
• Confidently communicate with members and external stakeholders including through
media, social media and directly with key industry groups; and
• Foster, grow and support an engaged membership.
